Mois de la Francophonie -Special Presentation & Wine Tasting -

March is traditionally "Le Mois de la Francophonie" celebrated around the world

and most importantly by all Alliance Francaises globally.

For our RenoTahoe celebration, we are honored to welcome Dr. Sandra Ott, anthropologist and director of the Basque Studies Program at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Her presentation will explore the story of the Laxalt family, a prominent Nevada Basque family whose origins lie in the French Basque Country, and the experience of Basque immigrants who traveled between the Pyrénées and the American West.

Dr. Ott will talk about the award-winning mémoir Sweet Promised Land by Nevada author Robert Laxalt, which recounts the remarkable journey connection his father Dominique’s return to his Basque village in France after decades spent in Nevada as a sheepherder.

This story highlights the lasting cultural connections between France, the Basque region, and Nevada - a perfect example of the importance of "la Francophonie"

The Wine Tasting will consist of 4 different French wines accompanied by cheese and charcuterie platter.
