About the exhibitions
These separate but related exhibits highlight the creative output of these two influential American figures of the 1920s and 1930s, who both documented the struggles and resilience of marginalized communities during a pivotal time in American history.

Dorothea Lange: Seeing People focuses on Lange's documentary photography, showcasing more than 100 portraits that emphasize her innovative approach to capturing the character and dignity of her subjects. The exhibition includes her most famous photograph, Migrant Mother, which documents the plight of migrant farm workers during the Great Depression.
When Langston Hughes Came to Town explores the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance writer and poet, particularly focusing on his little-known travels to Nevada during the Depression. The exhibit features works inspired by his Nevada visits, including archival photos, original poems, short stories, and artworks. It also includes works by other notable Harlem Renaissance artists like Augusta Savage and Aaron Douglas.

Location: Nevada Museum of Art, 160 West Liberty Street, Reno, NV 89501.
The Nevada Museum of Art is the only West Coast venue for this exhibition, which is organized by the National Gallery of Art.
A special hour-long tour will be conducted at the Nevada Museum of Art en français followed by an optional lunch at the museum's Café, now currently run by Perren.
