Of all the things one might expect to find in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, a broken Eiffel Tower probably isn't one of them.
Yet there it stands at Burning Man 2026: Eiffela Broken Dream, the extraordinary creation of French artist Philippe Maindron.
Built from 29 tons of steel, the installation is approximately one-tenth the scale of the Eiffel Tower and measures 30 meters long and 15 meters high.
The tower has been deliberately broken in two: the lower section represents a civilization sinking into the past, while the upper section reaches toward the sky as a symbol of hope for the future.
A cable suspended between the two sections becomes a stage for tightrope performances. (CEVA Logistics)
But before Eiffela reached Burning Man, what particularly caught our attention was the Reno connection where the Philippe Maindron and his team pre-assembled the enormous structure before continuing north to Black Rock City, even documenting their arrival in “la plus grande petite ville du monde.” (LinkedIn)

a rather remarkable French connection had arrived in our own backyard.
And perhaps that's what we love most about this story.
French culture doesn't exist only in Paris, Vendée, Provence or the Loire Valley. Sometimes it turns up where you least expect it…even in the Nevada desert.
